Community campaign plan and greater visibility

Help Haikubár build a low-cost community and social media campaign for one of its projects, so it can more easily reach viewers, participants and supporting communities.

The Haikubár for the Community Foundation (Haikubár a Közösségért Alapítvány) works as an inclusive community space, civil incubator, learning centre and community-building workshop. Its mission is to give civil society actors, organisations and young people space, knowledge, support and real community. It works on topics that truly matter: preparing for the world of work, mental health, the role of hobbies, the challenges of the polycrisis, sustainability and a culture of solidarity. The young organisation is currently launching three important projects: a film club, a student theatre/stage project and a solidarity movement with gamification elements. For these programmes to succeed, it is key that they reach the right viewers, participants and communities, while the organisation has no paid advertising budget and no social media expert on its team.

What kind of pro bono support are we looking for?

We are looking for an expert with experience in marketing, communications, social media, content marketing or community campaign planning to help Haikubár create a low-cost but deliberately designed campaign for one of its new projects. The organisation is launching three important projects: a film club, a student theatre/stage project and a solidarity movement. For all three, the key questions are visibility, attracting participants and viewers, and making Haikubár better known as a community space. It has previously tried offline leafleting, Facebook posts, sharing events and a newspaper ad, but these brought few results. The aim of the project is not to fully deliver three complete campaigns, but to choose a pilot project, clarify its target group and message logic, and then create a campaign plan and first implementation steps that can be delivered with a near-zero budget. The outcome can later be used as a template or learning base for Haikubár’s other projects.

Application requirements and participation details

What professional knowledge is required?

Marketing communications, social media campaign planning, building low-budget or organic campaigns, defining target groups and messages, event communication, social media channel logic, guerrilla marketing or community activation, creating a content calendar, using Facebook events and posts more effectively, launching on Instagram or TikTok, communication for civil/cultural/community projects.

What level of expertise is expected?

Experienced – An independent marketing or communications professional who can view a small, under-resourced civil society organisation’s programme through the eyes of its target groups, build a simple campaign logic, and propose practical steps that the organisation can start implementing with 1–3 hours of internal capacity per week.

What experience is an advantage?

Campaign communication for cultural, community, youth or civil society programmes, attracting event participants, organic social media growth, community activation, guerrilla marketing, using Facebook events and local community groups, launch channel strategies for Instagram or TikTok, campaigns built on zero or very low budgets, reaching local Budapest communities, communication aimed at young people.

What soft skills are needed?

Creativity, practicality, the ability to see what matters, the ability to simplify, clear writing, good questioning technique, empathy for target groups, an experimental mindset, a sense of realism, flexibility, and the ability to propose solutions that can be launched with few resources.

How many people are needed?

1 person

Conditions and expectations

The project can take place online or in person in Budapest. One person from the organisation can take part in the joint work for 1–3 hours per week over 3–4 months. The aim of the pro bono collaboration is to plan a campaign for one selected pilot project and support its first implementation steps, not to fully deliver three parallel campaigns, provide ongoing social media management, manage paid ads, produce a full content package or develop a long-term communication strategy. The project works well if the expert helps choose which new programme to start with as a pilot, and provides a simple campaign system that the organisation can later adapt for other projects.

What tasks do we need pro bono help with?

A short overview of the three new projects: the film club, the student theatre/stage project and the solidarity movement. Jointly deciding which project to build a pilot campaign for first, based on target group, timing, impact, feasibility and internal capacity. Clarifying the main target groups, messages and channels for the chosen project. Planning how to reach potential viewers, participants or community supporters without paid ads. Organising ideas for organic social media, local community groups, partner sharing, personal recommendations, offline touchpoints and guerrilla communication. Creating a simple campaign schedule and content calendar. Drafting a Facebook event, Facebook posts, Instagram/TikTok launch suggestions, and newsletter or partner outreach text outlines. Developing a few concrete post ideas, calls to action or creative campaign elements. Recommending a simple measurement logic: what to track, where interested people come from, which channel works, and how to learn from the first campaign. Giving feedback during the first steps of the campaign, so the organisation not only gets a plan but can actually get started.

Our ideal candidate

An experienced marketing, communications, social media or content marketing professional who is happy to help a young community foundation make its new cultural and solidarity projects more visible. The ideal candidate does not think in terms of big-budget campaigns, but in how to launch a campaign with target group messages, good channel choices, an organic social media presence, community sharing and creative, low-cost tools. They should be able to think at both a strategic and a very practical level.

Why does this matter?

Haikubár wants to build a community space, civil incubator, learning centre and workshop for young people all at once. The projects now being launched can only have real impact if they not only happen, but also reach the people they are meant for. A well-built, low-cost campaign can help the film club, the student theatre project or the solidarity movement avoid launching unseen, and instead attract participants, viewers and connected communities. The project not only helps launch one campaign, but also strengthens the organisation’s communication learning.

What does this role offer?

The chance to use your marketing, communications or social media expertise to increase the visibility of new projects at a young, creative community foundation working on social issues. Your work can directly help a cultural or solidarity programme find its audience, and help Haikubár learn how to build a campaign without a paid advertising budget. This is a creative, practical pro bono project where strategic messaging and concrete posts, channels and content ideas all matter.
