Help the GazdaRÉT Community Garden Association map its potential target groups, the right messages for them, how these fit its mission, and which groups to approach first.
The GazdaRÉT Community Garden Association maintains and develops a community garden that creates local green space, a meeting point, community participation and educational opportunities. The garden is currently run mainly by the association’s members, while it could also represent wider local value: it could be a venue for community programmes, awareness-raising, sharing gardening knowledge, environmental education and local partnerships. The organisation would like to see more clearly whom it should connect with, which messages it can use to present the garden’s value, how these fit its mission, and which target groups to focus on first.
We are looking for an expert experienced in target group research, communication planning, stakeholder thinking or positioning community causes to help the GazdaRÉT Community Garden Association map its potential target groups, the right messages for them and the most important first directions for outreach. The organisation currently feels that maintaining the garden falls entirely on the association’s members, while in reality it represents wider local community and educational value. The aim of the project is not classic fundraising advice, grant writing or carrying out supporter outreach, but thinking through for whom GazdaRÉT can be relevant, with what value message they can be approached, how these messages fit the association’s mission, and which target groups to start with first. As an additional benefit, the process creates a shared understanding within the organisation and can produce messages that other association members can also use later.
Target group research, communication planning, stakeholder mapping, developing value propositions, crafting messages, assessing mission fit, setting prioritisation criteria, positioning local community causes, preparing a simple interview or question outline.
Experienced – An independent expert who can quickly understand the situation of a small civil society community, break down the community garden’s possible connections by target group, articulate messages and value propositions, and then help prioritise which target groups to focus on first.
Communication for community or environmental causes, target group research, creating stakeholder maps, developing local community projects, communicating educational programmes, crafting messages, prioritisation matched to the capacity of small civil society organisations, preparing outreach directions towards local institutions, schools, businesses or local government actors.
Good questioning technique, the ability to see what matters, structured thinking, empathy, clear writing, practicality, simplification, prioritisation, a community mindset, and sensitivity to the limited capacity of small civil society communities.

The project can take place online or in person in Budapest. 1–2 people from the organisation can take part in the joint thinking. Although in the longer term they could dedicate 2–4 hours per week to taking the development directions forward, this pro bono project needs a focused expert consultation of 2–4 hours. The aim is a first clarification of potential target groups, the messages that fit them, the link to GazdaRÉT’s mission and outreach priorities. The project does not cover grant writing, searching for funding, preparing a fundraising strategy or carrying out supporter outreach.
A short overview of the community garden’s current situation, maintenance challenges and development ideas. Mapping potential target groups and stakeholders, for example local residents, families, schools, kindergartens, environmental education actors, local businesses, and local government or community actors. Clarifying what value the garden can offer each target group: a community space, an educational programme, sharing gardening knowledge, awareness-raising, volunteer or community activity, a local green cause. A first draft of key messages for each target group. Thinking through how each target group direction fits GazdaRÉT’s mission and capacity. Setting prioritisation criteria and recommending which target groups to focus on first. Suggesting questions that could be used to collect feedback from target groups. Preparing a short, shareable summary of target groups, messages and priorities that association members can also use.
An experienced communications, target group research, service design, community development or stakeholder mapping expert who is happy to help a community garden see more precisely whom it should connect with, with what message and in what order. The ideal candidate does not come as a fundraising expert, but helps GazdaRÉT put its future connections on a clear foundation of target groups, messages and priorities. They can simplify, ask questions, organise, and in a short time provide directions the organisation can build on according to its own capacity.
Maintaining the community garden is not just an internal matter for the association’s members, but a local community asset: it can create green space, a meeting point, environmental awareness and educational opportunities. For a wider range of actors to connect with the garden later, it first needs to be clearly articulated whom it is for, what value it offers them, how all this fits GazdaRÉT’s mission, and which target groups to start working with first. The joint work also helps ensure this thinking does not stay in one person’s head, but that others in the organisation can understand and use the messages too.
The chance to help clarify the target group and communication foundations of a local community and environmental cause. Your work can help the GazdaRÉT Community Garden Association better understand whom it should connect with, with what value message and in what order. This is a short, focused pro bono task where just a few hours of target group, communication or stakeholder-minded thinking can give the organisation a tangible, shareable direction for its next steps.
