Volunteer recruitment messages and application process

Help the ADHD Hungary–Pálföldi Foundation present its related organisations, their projects and volunteer roles more clearly, and then build a simple application and onboarding process.

The ADHD Hungary–Pálföldi Foundation and the H-ÉSZ Experts Social Cooperative (H-ÉSZ Hozzáértők Közhasznú Szociális Szövetkezete) work with neurodivergent children and young people – typically those with ADHD or who function differently for other reasons – and their families. Their aim is to prepare young people not only through vocational training, but also for self-sufficiency, responsible living, family planning and consciously building their future. They organise individual and group mentoring, therapy, skills development and community sessions, and at the Pálföldi Farm (Pálföldi Majorság) they offer practical, work-based and experiential learning opportunities, including for young people over 16. The organisation is currently in a phase of growth and organisational development, while visibility, involving volunteers and presenting its activities clearly have become key issues.

What kind of pro bono support are we looking for?

We are looking for an expert with experience in communications, volunteer recruitment, HR/people, service design or organisational messaging to help the ADHD Hungary–Pálföldi Foundation make it clearer how the activities of the organisation, the H-ÉSZ Cooperative and the Pálföldi Farm connect, what they stand for, which projects they need volunteers for, and how people can easily apply. The organisation mainly needs volunteers and team members with a wide range of skills: practical tradespeople such as bricklayers, carpenters and joiners, as well as teachers, students or development-minded professionals who can connect with neurodivergent young people in an open and accepting way. The aim of the project is not to build a complete HR system, website or campaign, but to lay the foundations for volunteer roles, target groups, key messages, the application path and onboarding, so that recruitment becomes clearer, more manageable and easier to hand over.

Application requirements and participation details

What professional knowledge is required?

Communication planning, volunteer recruitment, an HR or people operations mindset, defining target groups and messages, service design, onboarding processes, creating a simple application interface or application path, presenting organisational roles and projects clearly, thinking through the content structure of web or social media channels.

What level of expertise is expected?

Experienced – An independent expert who can understand and simplify an operation made up of several organisational units, many kinds of activities and different volunteer roles, and then create a messaging and application logic that the organisation can use in its day-to-day recruitment.

What experience is an advantage?

Recruiting and onboarding volunteers, communication for civil society or community organisations, presenting multi-project operations simply, reaching teachers, professional volunteers or craft/technical volunteers, communication for organisations working with neurodivergent or vulnerable young people, content design for application forms or landing pages, communication solutions matched to the capacity of small organisations.

What soft skills are needed?

The ability to see what matters, empathy, good questioning technique, structured thinking, the ability to simplify, clear writing, sensitivity to the situation of neurodivergent young people and their families, practicality, patience, and a feel for implementation and change management.

How many people are needed?

1 person

Conditions and expectations

The project can take place online and partly in person. The organisation is based in Cegléd and considers it important that the expert visits the site, the Pálföldi Farm and the community space being developed at least once; after that, the work can largely continue online. Two people from the organisation can dedicate a total of 4–6 hours per week to the joint work, flexibly, alongside the school year and their daily work with students. The aim of the project is to create a first usable volunteer recruitment communication system that can be put into practice. A full rebrand, complex web development, paid campaign management or implementing a complete HR system are not goals.

What tasks do we need pro bono help with?

Reviewing the three connected organisational/operational units and their main activities: who is who, what they do, which programmes are running, and how they connect. Exploring the current communication and recruitment situation: which channels they post on, what confuses outside visitors, and where volunteer involvement gets stuck. Defining the most important volunteer roles and profiles, for example practical tradespeople, craft/technical helpers, teachers, university students, and volunteers experienced in experiential or alternative education. Drafting key messages for each target group: why it is worth joining, what value the role offers, what help is needed and what attitude is required. Creating a simple project- and role-based application logic that lets interested people apply through an easy-to-manage interface. Planning the first steps of onboarding: what information an interested person should receive, who contacts them, what questions need to be clarified, and how they join a specific project. Recommending a content structure that can be used on the website and social media, and preparing a short, shareable internal communication/recruitment outline.

Our ideal candidate

An experienced communications, HR, volunteer management, service design, organisational development or nonprofit operations expert who is happy to help a diverse organisation supporting neurodivergent young people make its operations and volunteer recruitment easier to understand. The ideal candidate can bring order to complex organisational information, articulate clear volunteer profiles and messages, and propose a simple, sustainable application and onboarding process. They should not build too big a system, but create a solution that matches the organisation’s capacity and can be tried out quickly.

Why does this matter?

The Pálföldi Farm and related programmes offer safe, practical and personalised development opportunities for young people for whom traditional school or work environments are often not supportive enough. However, developing the community space, the practical workshop activities and the alternative education programmes can only move faster if more suitable volunteers and team members get involved. For this, it needs to be clear what the organisation stands for, which roles it is looking for people for, what attitude is needed and how to join. A more transparent volunteer recruitment system can directly help projects move faster and support the young people.

What does this role offer?

The chance to help an initiative supporting neurodivergent young people, built on practical learning and community development, to grow. Your work can help the organisation present itself more clearly, define its volunteer roles more precisely, and more easily find people who can support young people with their trade, teaching knowledge or open presence. This is a practical communications and volunteer recruitment pro bono task where a few well-crafted messages, role descriptions and an application process can bring real operational progress.
